Pakistan’s Foreign Office on Thursday said it is not aware of any planned visit by the U.S. President, following reports in local media claiming that Donald Trump is expected to visit Islamabad in September this year, ahead of his scheduled trip to India.
Earlier, two local television channels reported that former U.S. President Donald Trump would visit Pakistan in September, citing sources familiar with the matter.
However, a spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Office said that he was not aware of any such expected visit.
If confirmed, the visit would mark the first by a U.S. president in nearly two decades, with the last being President George W. Bush’s visit in 2006.
U.S.-Pakistan relations received a boost last month when Trump hosted Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, at the White House in an unprecedented meeting.
