LAHORE: Renowned religious scholar Tariq Jameel has rejected allegations levelled against him after conducted a Nikah ceremony for the daughter of a prominent businessman, Muhammad Iqbal in Lahore last week.
As per details, Pakistan recently witnessed one of the most lavish weddings that featured extravagant decor and foreign dancers and was attended by several public figures.
Among other celebrities, Maulana Tariq Jameel was also present at the wedding where he made a special prayer (dua) to bless the couple. Maulana Tariq Jameel also conducted the Nikah ceremony and shared his views.
The religious scholar is being criticised on social media after it emerged that he allegedly received a million rupees for making dua at the lavish wedding ceremony.
Rejecting all allegations Tariq Jameel said, “With the help of Allah, I have traveled to six continents for the last 45 years to preach Islam. I have been singing the song of the life of the Prophet (SAW) to the Ummah for a long time. The obstacle to our progress is our moral inferiority,” he added.
“In this long journey, with the help of Allah, I conducted Nikah of thousands of girls and boys for the sake of Allah. I have a long friendship with Sheikh Mahmood Sahib. How can I take money for conducting Nikha of my friends’ daughter at his invitation?” he said in a series of tweets.

Social media users, including his fans, criticized the cleric for attending an event where so much was against what he preaches, as photos and videos of the function did not only reflect extravagant expenditure but also showed participation of dancers and singers.
So this crass and vulgar wedding display said to have costed Rs 200 crores was graced by many performers including award winning actor Maulana Tariq Jameel who received Rs 1 million as “nazrana” and preached stirringly on the importance of simplicity.
