ISLAMABAD: The newly elected members of the 16th National Assembly of the country took oath, including Muslim League (N) President Shehbaz Sharif, People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, President-designate Asif Zardari and Maulana Fazlur Rehman among other important names.
According to the details, Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf presided over the opening session of the 16th National Assembly today and administered the oath to the newly elected members. Independent PTI members protested before the swearing-in ceremony.
PTI-backed independent members gathered under the banner of the Sunni Ittehad Council and held up banners with pictures of Imran Khan. The newly elected members of the National Assembly took oath and signed the roll of members.
After taking the oath, the newly elected members of the National Assembly congratulated each other. Asif Ali Zardari, the candidate for the post of President of the People’s Party went to PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and shook his hand.
Newly elected members of the Assembly Owais Leghari, Naveed Qamar, Aleem Khan, Salik Hussain, and others signed the roll of members. Members of the Muslim League (N), People’s Party, Sunni Ittehad Council, and JUI took the oath of office.
Meanwhile, members of the Muslim League (N) and Sunni Ittehad Council raised slogans against each other. The number of general seats in the National Assembly is 266. There are 60 reserved seats for women and 10 for minority seats in the House.
