KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has issued show-cause notices to disgruntled MPAs in Sindh for violating party policy and voting for the new opposition leader.
The notification was issued by PTI secretary general Omar Ayub Khan for going against party policy and voting for the replacement of Sindh opposition leader.
The MPAs include Omar Omairi, Imran Ali Shah, Sanjay Gangwani, Sachanand Lakhwani, Rabia Azfar Nizami, Muhammad Ali Aziz, Karim Bux Gabol and Bilal Ahmed.
The party members have been asked to submit an explanation within three days and if their response is unsatisfactory the party will take action against them.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) MPA Rana Ansar was elected the Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly to replace PTI’s Haleem Adil Shaikh.
Rana Ansar received the support of 39 members from 69 opposition members, including 20 MQM-P, 10 GDA members, and nine PTI dissidents. She became the first woman opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly.
A notification issued by the assembly’s secretariat, de-notified Sheikh as the opposition leader after he lost the backing of lawmakers. This is the third time that the opposition leader has been changed in the provincial assembly during the current tenure.
