In a significant development, Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) has reported the discovery of substantial new gas reserves in Ghotki, Sindh.
According to the detailed announcement, MPCL has successfully uncovered a major gas deposit in the Ghazij Formation of Sindh. The company communicated this breakthrough to the Pakistan Stock Exchange through an official letter, highlighting the discovery’s potential.
In the correspondence, MPCL detailed that a well was drilled to a depth of 1,006 meters in the Ghazij Formation. Preliminary testing has revealed promising gas reserves estimated at 5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) from this well. The company also stated that once all regulatory requirements are met, the production process from this well will be seamlessly integrated into the existing system.
Earlier this year, the Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) also announced a gas discovery in Sindh, specifically in the Sujawal district. The well in Sujawal tested at 1.24 MMSCFD of gas through a 32/64” choke, with a wellhead flowing pressure of 150 pounds per square inch (psi) from the Lower Goru Formation, as per OGDCL’s statement.
These discoveries by MPCL and OGDCL underscore the rich potential of Sindh’s geological formations, positioning the region as a critical area for Pakistan’s energy sector development. The continuous efforts in exploration and production are expected to contribute significantly to the country’s energy resources, enhancing energy security and supporting economic growth.
