On Saturday, the Karachi police filed a new case against Natasha Danish, who was previously suspected in a fatal accident near Karsaz. The new case is based on her medical reports, which confirmed that she was under the influence of methamphetamine (crystal meth) during the accident that claimed the lives of Imran Arif, 60, and his daughter Amna Arif on August 19.
Natasha Danish was initially charged with the deaths of Imran and Amna, as well as injuring five others. The new FIR was registered after her medical samples tested positive for narcotics. The police have submitted this new FIR to the court.
Natasha, who had run over the victims and injured several others, remains in judicial custody following a Karachi East court order. Her medical report, dated August 28, confirmed the presence of the banned substance ice in her urine. Although the SSP investigation stated that the report is confidential for now, it has been included in the ongoing investigation and will be presented in court.
A special investigation team has been formed by the Karachi police to probe the case. They have collected and are examining all available CCTV footage. The team reported that Natasha has been inconsistent in her statements.
According to investigators, Natasha was traveling from her home in KDA Scheme-I to her in-laws’ residence, a distance of approximately 3-4 kilometers, at the time of the incident. Her vehicle is registered under a private company’s name.
The investigation has led to the addition of new legal sections to the case, including Section 322 Qatal-bis-Sabab (murder without intention), which carries a prison term of 10 to 18 years. This section also allows for a settlement option known as diyat (blood money), requiring Natasha to pay compensation equivalent to 30,360 grams of silver, valued at around Rs 6.8 million, to the victims’ families.
If the family accepts the settlement, the case may be closed. The police are also seeking additional CCTV footage and have urged anyone injured or with property damage to come forward and provide statements. DIG East assured that the investigation is ongoing and pledged that justice will be served for the deceased father and daughter.
