Oscar winner and one of the brilliant actors Cillian Murphy is returning to the world of Peaky Blinders but this time, it’s a movie instead of a series.
Netflix has greenlit a movie based on the beloved series that stars Murphy as Thomas Shelby, the war hero turned gangster who works his way up in the world of crime in 1900s Birmingham.
Peaky Blinders is a crime drama centered on a family of mixed Irish Traveller and Romani origins based in Birmingham, England, starting in 1919, several months after the end of the First World War. It centers on the Peaky Blinders street gang and their ambitious, cunning crime boss Tommy Shelby.
While the film is described as a “continuation” of the series, plot details are being kept under wraps. Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight penned the screenplay. Tom Harper, who directed episodes in the series’ first season, is set to helm the film.
Knight will co-produce alongside Caryn Mandabach, Murphy, and Guy Heeley. It will be made in association with BBC Film.
On the work front, Murphy was last seen in theaters with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, which earned him the Best Actor Oscar. His 28 Days Later sequel is currently in production.
