ISLAMABAD: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has rejected the federal government’s request to increase the price of electricity.
The request for an increase in electricity prices was made by the government in the context of adjustment, and NEPRA issued a decision on the request of the federal government.
According to the decision, NEPRA has given decisions related to electricity prices in terms of quarterly adjustment, the current request of the federal government regarding the increase in electricity prices is not appropriate, there are ambiguities in the request of the federal government.

Earlier on May 20, the NEPRA increased the electricity prices for Karachi by one Rs 55 paise per unit. NEPRA accepted the request of the federal government for the adjustment of electricity prices in 2022. The increase in electricity prices will be implemented from this month.
According to the statement, the increase in electricity prices will be received in the bills for May, June, and July 2022. The increase will be applied to all customers except Lifeline.
