ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved raising electricity tariff by Re0.51 per unit for Karachi consumers on account of uniform tariff across the country.
The move came after the federal government asked NEPRA to notify 51 paisa per unit additional charge to all Karachi Electric consumers with effect from November to January 2023.

NEPRA insists the federal government is providing Rs 291 billion annual subsidy to Karachi consumers, and that under the National Electricity Policy 2021, the government may maintain a uniform consumer-end tariff for K-Electric and state-owned power distribution companies.
Last month, it may be recalled, NEPRA had reduced electricity tariff for Karachi by Rs4.68 per unit for September on account of fuel charge adjustment (FCA), just a day after hiking the same by Rs12.68 per unit for K-Electric consumers.
