ISLAMABAD: The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has decided to take all possible steps to ensure the implementation of COVID SOPs.
The decision was taken at the NCOC meeting held in Islamabad on Thursday with Planning Minister Asad Umar in the chair, according to a statement. All provinces have also been directed to check the growing trend of non-implementation of SOPs to contain the spread of disease in the country.
Meanwhile, Pakistan had reported 92 deaths in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases has surged to 926,695. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 21,022.
According to the latest figures issued by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 2,028 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.
Pakistan has started coronavirus vaccination for those aged 18 years and above. Earlier this week, NCOC chief Asad Umar made an announcement, saying that the vaccination has been opened for all eligible age groups simultaneously.
According to the federal minister, more than five million people have been vaccinated so far against the coronavirus infection in Pakistan. He encouraged the public to get themselves registered for vaccination at the earliest.
On May 16, Pakistan had opened registrations for citizens aged 19 and above for COVID-19 vaccination. In a tweet, Umar had said registration will be open for the entire national population which is approved by health experts for the vaccine.
He had explained that the government was opening up registrations for more age groups as Pakistan’s vaccine supply continues to improve and the country’s vaccination capacity gets enhanced day by day.
On May 3, Pakistan opened registration for the vaccination of people aged between 40 to 49 years across the country and, subsequently, began walk-in vaccinations for people of the same age group.
