LONDON: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s mother Shamim Akhtar has passed away in London on Sunday.
Senior PML-N leader Ataullah Tarar announced the tragic news on Twitter. “Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mian Shahbaz Sharif’s respected mother has passed away,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz, who was currently attending PDM’s public gathering in Peshawar has been informed about the death of her grandmother.
In February this year, Shamim Akhtar left for London. She was accompanied by the former prime minister’s sister Kausar and brother-in-law Yousaf as she desired to be with her son during a cardiac procedure. Nawaz Sharif has left for London in November last year for medical treatment.
“Despite being advised not to travel, Shamim is traveling to London to see her son during his treatment,” PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said in a tweet. “Shamim Bibi had been advised not to travel because of her advanced age and illness but she expressed her wish to be there during her son’s treatment,” she added.
Begum Akhter was 90 years old and had been ill for a while. According to reports, she was undergoing medical treatment. She will be buried at the Sharif family graveyard in Jati Umrah, according to PML-N leader Uzma Bukhari.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed his condolences on her demise. “My condolences and prayers go to the Sharif family on the passing of Mian Nawaz and Mian Shahbaz Sharif’s mother,” he said.

Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa expressed his grief and heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of the mother Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif.
Governor Punjab Chaudhry Sarwar, Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar, former president Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistan People’s Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardar, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser and Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri and other political leaders have expressed grief her demise and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
