KARACHI: The 56th death anniversary of ‘Madar-e-Millat’ Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah is being observed today with great respect and reverence.
Fatima Jinnah played a vital role in the creation of Pakistan. She worked side by side with her brother Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and gathered the women of sub-continent on one platform which made the struggle for achieving a separate state of Muslims easier.
Fatima Jinnah is referred as the Madar-i-Millat or ‘Mother of the Nation’ for her role in the freedom movement. She also play a brief political role after independence and contested the 1965 presidential election against military ruler General Ayub Khan.
Fatima Jinnah was born on July 31, 1893 in Karachi and passed away on July 9, 1967. She is still remembered for her passionate support for civil rights and devoted struggle in Pakistan Movement.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah on her death anniversary. The prime minister said that she was a benefactor of the nation and had been a source of courage for Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
“Despite her senility, she stood firm against dictatorship and played a historic role for the nation, democracy and the country,” he added.
The prime minister said Fatima Jinnah also played an unprecedented role during Pakistan Movement and for the motherland and offered sacrifices.
He said that the personality of Fatima Jinnah was still a beacon of light for the young ladies and women of the country. The entire nation paid tribute to her contributions and would always stand indebted to her services, he added.
The prime minister prayed for the high ranks of the departed soul and appealed to the nation to pray for her soul.
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardaro also issued a message on the occasion to reflect upon the extraordinary life of Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah.
He said Fatima Jinnah was a “trailblazer whose indomitable spirit shaped the very essence of Pakistan.”
“Let us embrace her legacy as a clarion call to pursue justice, empower the marginalized, and unite as one nation,” he added.
