The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued a warning that individuals who do not apply for their identity card upon reaching the age of 18 may face a penalty of up to six months in prison or a substantial fine.
As stipulated in Section 9(1) of the NADRA Ordinance 2000, it is mandatory to submit an application for an identity card within 90 days of turning 18.
Neglecting to apply within this timeframe may result in penalties as outlined in Section 30(e) of the NADRA Ordinance, which could include imprisonment for a duration of up to six months, a fine of up to Rs50,000, or both.
The National Identity Card (NIC) is issued to citizens of Pakistan and incorporates advanced technology along with clearly defined regulations to ensure its authenticity and validity.
This card features a unique 13-digit identification number that is recognized nationwide.
It serves as a fundamental requirement for individuals, as it is necessary for obtaining various documents such as a driver’s license, NTN, bank account, passport, and cellular connection. All citizens of Pakistan aged 18 and above are eligible to apply for the NIC.
