Actress Nadia Khan expressed concern over the establishment of “Halala centers” in several cities across Pakistan, including Karachi, the capital of Sindh province.
She also said that the site is advertised on the Internet.
While hosting her TV show “Kya Drama Hai,” Khan praised the drama “Mann Jogi” for its authentic depiction of Halala, a process in Islam that allows a divorced woman to remarry her former husband after completing a legitimate marriage with another man, followed by divorce.
However, she doubts what led to the establishment of this place. “Halala is a big problem and these centers are set up all over the country,” she said.
On the show, Khan read an advertisement for a Halala center that she found on social media and expressed concern about the use of such religious practices.
She emphasized that some of these centers promise to handle everything from marriage to divorce carefully and confidentially, and encouraged women who want halala to talk to them.
“In Karachi alone, I have seen more than ten advertisements of Halala sites on the Internet with addresses, phone numbers and more,” she said, adding that the sites are open in several cities, and have official contact information.
Khan was surprised that this sensitive issue was being discussed publicly and questioned the lack of accountability for those running such centers.
“How can these individuals justify assisting others by setting up and promoting Halala centers?” she wondered.
