ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has completed its investigation in the Narowal Sports City case and named PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal as the prime suspect.
NAB Rawalpindi has prepared a report and sent it to their headquarters. The team has requested to more file a reference on the basis of the evidence against the PML-N leader.
Earlier today, an accountability court Islamabad adjourned hearing against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Ahsan Iqbal in Narowal Sports City case till 26th August.
Accountability Court judge Muhammad Bashir resumed hearing into the corruption case against former interior minister Ahsan Iqbal. The judge asked the NAB prosecutor about the reference against the PML-N leader.
The NAB prosecutor sought more time from the court for filing the reference against the PML-N leader. The request was granted and the case hearing was adjourned.
NAB had converted the inquiry against PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal into the investigation. The former interior minister is accused of causing losses worth billions to the national exchequer by initiating the project in his home constituency.
According to NAB officials, Pakistan Sports Board illegally used its authority for the construction of the sports city. Fourteen stadiums were meant to be constructed as part of the Rs2.9 billion project inaugurated in 2018
NAB had announced to initiate a probe a day after its inauguration by then President Mamnoon Hussain. into alleged violation of rules after receiving a complaint of embezzlement.
Iqbal has rejected NAB’s allegations. He said that the total cost of the project was Rs2.9 billion, while Rs2.5 billion have so far been spent on it.
