LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has closed inquiries against the Chaudhry brothers after 20 years.
A two-member bench of the Lahore High Court heard the Chaudhry brothers’ petition against the powers of the NAB chairman. The National Accountability Bureau gave a clean chit to the Chaudhry brothers.
The NAB closed all inquiries in the assets case against PML-Q leaders, including illegal recruitments and bank defaults. DG NAB Saleem Shehzad appeared in the court and informed the court that inquiries against Chaudhry Shujaat and Pervez Elahi have been closed after which the court disposed of the petitions as ineffective.
The PML-Q leaders had taken a stand in the petition that the NAB chairman had ordered a re-investigation of the 20-year-old case while the earlier inquiry had not proved anything. It has been the target of political revenge.
After the hearing, Deputy Prosecutor General Chaudhry Khaliq-ul-Zaman said that every inquiry has been closed due to lack of evidence. It is to be noted that inquiries against Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi as a local government minister for corruption, illegal recruitment, bank default, and assets in excess of income were pending which have now been closed.
