Lahore: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has made a significant recovery in its case against former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and others implicated in a corruption scandal, transferring the recovered funds to the Punjab government.
In a statement released by NAB Lahore’s spokesperson, it was confirmed that the recovery pertains to kickbacks linked to contracts involving Elahi and his associates.
Deputy Chairman NAB Sohail Nasir presented a cheque of Rs 36.8 million to the Punjab government, which included Rs 17.2 million obtained from former Chief Financial Officer Ikram Naveed as part of a plea bargain.
Nasir emphasized that recovering national wealth remains NAB’s top priority. He noted the establishment of the Accountability Facilitation Cell (AFC) to assist parliamentary representatives and the business community, which has now been expanded to include members of the bureaucracy following the National Assembly and Provincial Parliament’s approval.
He further stated that NAB Lahore is committed to returning billions of rupees to the people and the national treasury this year.
As part of its people-friendly initiatives, NAB Lahore has been conducting monthly open courts, aimed at enhancing public trust in the organization, especially following the recent actions taken by the NAB Chairman.
