ISLAMABAD: The prices of the staple Naan and roti have been increased up to Rs10 in the capital, with tandoorwalas charging between Rs25 and Rs30.
The price of naan has been raised to Rs30 from Rs20 and the roti rate reached Rs20.
Tandoori vendors, on the other hand, have issued a warning that the recent increase in the market price of wheat flour will cause the price of the staple dish to climb by an additional Rs 5 over the course of the next two to three days. This indicates that starting the following week, Naan will cost Rs 35.
In the last nine months, the price of Naan has shot up by over 75 percent since the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) took over in April.
Addressing a press conference, the Nanbai Association Islamabad office-bearers threatened to shut their business if the admin intervened in the matter.
“We cannot sell roti and naan at cheap rates after buying expensive flour. Gas bills have gone up, everything is getting expensive,” they added.
At present, a Naan weighs 120gm to 125gm and is prepared from flour called “fine” or flour from which bran has been separated.
According to the price list of Insaf Naanbai Association Islamabad (INAI) displayed at almost all Tandoors, Naan is being sold at Rs30, Roti [Pateeri], Rs25; Qulcha, Rs35; Roghni Naan, Rs60; special Roghni Naan, Rs70, Paratha for Rs60, special Paratha, Rs70 and Afghani Naan is being sold for Rs50.
