Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) backed independent candidate Rehana Dar face blow against PML-N candidate Khawaja Asif in NA-71 Sialkot in the General Election 2024, after she was declared winner by 49,000 votes in earlier results.
The result was shocking for Pakistanis who were expecting Usman Dar’s mother to clinch as initial results showed Mrs Dar leading by 40,000 votes as the clock hits 4:30 pm on Friday.
According to the unofficial results, Dar secured 131,165 votes, while Asif, the former foreign and defense minister, got only 81,615 votes. This is the first time that Dar has contested an election, while Asif has been a five-time member of the National Assembly from the same seat.
Later, in the official results, Khawaja Asif miraculously won with 118,566 while Rehana Dar secured 100,272.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Ata Tarar also clinched victory against Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari NA-127 Lahore.
According to unofficial results, PML-N’s Ata Tarar bagged 98,210 votes followed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-backed Malik Zaheer Abbas Khokhar with 82,230 votes and Bilawal on third place with 15,005 votes.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif defeated PTI-backed candidate Yasmin Rashid on the NA-130 Lahore seat.
