ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan met with Federal Religious Affairs Minister Noorul Haq Qadri and it was decided that mosques will remain open amid the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, according to a statement, it was decided that the implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) must be emphasised at mosques to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.
The Prime Minister also directed the federal minister to stay in touch with the religious scholars and the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC), in matters pertaining to the pandemic.
PM Imran further asked the scholars to spread awareness regarding the virus and to ensure the implementation of COVID-19 SOPs. On the occasion, the minister also consulted the prime minister on the reorganisation of the Ulema and Mashaikh Council.
The meeting between the premier and the minister comes at a time when the country is experiencing its second wave of the pandemic, with at least 3,262 cases recorded today (Friday) and 55 people succumbing to the virus.
Earlier on Thursday, the Pakistani Ulema unanimously agreed with the government that public rallies should be postponed considering the growing number of coronavirus cases in the country.
Religious scholars met with President Dr Arif Alvi to discuss implementing coronavirus SOPs in mosques to contain the spread of the disease.
