Meet 13-year-old Abdul Waris – the only bread earner of his family

KARACHI: Childhood is the name of innocence and dreams. However, it is unfortunate that thousands of children in Pakistan are forced to work to make their ends meet.

Abdul Waris is a 13 years old boy from Karachi who works diligently to fulfill the financial needs of his family. Waris sells his mother’s home-cooked food on a bicycle. In addition to this, he works at a cloth market from 11 am in the morning and comes home at night around 9 pm.

The 13-year-old, the eldest among five siblings, has been working for 6 years now in order to have enough money to avert hunger. The food, he sells, includes pizza bites, donuts, and gulab jamuns that he carries in an upgraded bicycle that he bought from scrap.

Talking to M.M News, Abdul Waris informed that his parents are physically disabled, therefore he is the only bread earner of his family. On the decision not to take financial help, he said, “I have to earn with my hard work, I don’t need anyone’s kindness.”

“Ever since my video went viral, my sales have skyrocketed,” he said, adding that he is not fond of reading nor is he fond of playing. “Yes, I go to madrassas. I go home at two o’clock in the morning,” he added.

When asked how he would carry out his work without any help, Waris said that he needed prayers and not financial support from anyone.
