KARACHI: Karachi’s Mayor Waseem Akhtar left for the United States on a private visit with his family on Sunday.
According to details, Mayor Waseem Akhtar will return from the United States next week. In his absence, Deputy Mayor Karachi Arshad Hassan will perform the services as acting mayor of the metropolis.
Earlier Waseem Akhtar had visited the US in July last year. It should be noted that other MQM leaders, including Mayor Karachi, have reservations with the federal government.
Earlier, MQM-Pakistan leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui had resigned from his post as a federal minister for information technology and telecommunication over non-release of funds for the municipalities in Karachi.
On Saturday night Siddiqui has said that a positive progress was made in second rounds of talks with a PTI team, formed by Prime Minister Imran Khan to address reservations of its disenchanted coalition partners.
He said the talks were held in a very conducive environment and in a few weeks’ time people would see a positive outcome.
