Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a significant initiative aimed at providing three-marla plots to deserving individuals across the province under the ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ program.
The approval was granted during a meeting in Lahore, where the Chief Minister reviewed the progress of the housing initiative. In her address, Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced that the scheme would begin with the Christian community, where 666 plots would be allotted to eligible citizens. Following this, the program will be expanded to provide plots to deserving people in all regions of Punjab.
The Chief Minister highlighted the ongoing success of the ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ initiative, which has already begun disbursing loans to applicants. A total of 927 people have received the first installment of their housing loans as part of the program.
Additionally, Maryam Nawaz Sharif shared that the government would provide essential items, including furniture, to the first five families whose homes are completed under the scheme. The ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ program is being hailed as Pakistan’s first major interest-free housing project.
In a recent cheque distribution ceremony held in October, the Punjab government began handing out cheques to eligible families to help them build their homes. During the ceremony, both PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of this initiative in fulfilling the dream of providing housing for the underprivileged. Maryam Nawaz also mentioned that the program had received an overwhelming 500,000 applications.
Under this scheme, eligible individuals will be provided loans of up to Rs 1.5 million. The loans will be granted through a monthly ballot draw, ensuring fair distribution. The specifics of the loan offerings are as follows:
- Rural Areas: Loans of up to PKR 1.5 million for houses up to 10 marlas, with a monthly repayment of PKR 14,000.
- Urban Areas: Loans of up to PKR 1.5 million for houses up to 5 marlas, repayable in monthly installments of PKR 14,000.
- Major Cities: Construction of four-story flats on government land, which will be allocated via a lottery system and offered on easy installment plans.
- Private Housing Schemes: Homes ranging from 3 to 5 marlas, with government subsidies of up to PKR 1 million per house.
