RAWALPINDI: A blazing 81-run knock by Sohaib Maqsood helped Southern Punjab qualify for the semi-finals of the ongoing National T20 Cup in Rawalpindi.
The Shan Masood-led unit set a target of 162 runs but Southern Punjab needed to chase down the total in 12.3 overs to seal a place in the final four. Despite this task, Southern Punjab knocked off the runs in 10.4 overs in stunning fashion.
Balochistan, after electing to bat first, made 161-6 in their 20 overs. Opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq scored 48 off 37 balls whereas Akbar-ur-Rehman chipped in with his 37-run knock.
Mohammad Imran bagged two wickets for Shan Masood’s team. Later, Sohaib Maqsood played a blistering 81-run knock. The right-handed batsman struck 13 boundaries and four sixes in his match-winning innings for the team.
Southern Punjab will now face Northern, meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will lock horns with Sindh, in the semi-finals of the event, which are scheduled to be played on Saturday, October 17.
