Powerlifting, Bench-pressing and arm-wrestling competitions were held in Malir, Karachi. Participating athletes said competitions like this would help these sports become proper sports in the country.
With an aim of promoting the less popular sports, a large number of youths took part in powerlifting, bench-pressing and arm-wrestling competitions held in Malir this month.
“We invited all the gyms in the region to participate in these competitions, and the response was extremely positive.” The organizers told MM News.
Arm wrestling is a game that requires high technical skills along with muscular strength and on top of all mental toughness. The sport has become a regular feature in Pakistan in the last 15 years.
The organizers termed the competitions a success, adding that arm-wrestling is a sport that help athlete develop both physical strength and mental strength.
“Following rules and regulations minimize the risk of injury.” They added.
A teenager athlete Abdul Ahad said he had won the completion of Arm-wrestling in 60kg category.
“Taking care of your diet is extremely important if you want to compete in Arm-wrestling.” Ahad added.
Athletes termed the competitions an exciting moment, adding that if authorities began supporting arm wrestling, many athletes can go to the international stage and win competitions for the country.
The sport may look a seven-minute contest, but it requires months’ worth of hard work; it is not an easy sport. It is very different from bodybuilding. It requires a lot of training, mental toughness and focus.
