Malik Riaz, a prominent Pakistani real estate tycoon, announced on Wednesday that he will not turn state witness against former Prime Minister Imran Khan. This statement followed a raid by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on the Rawalpindi office of Bahria Town, during which cash, project files, computers, vehicles, and nine employees were taken.
Riaz took to Twitter to declare his stance, asserting, “I will not turn approver, come what may.”
Reports indicate that the anti-corruption team was searching for records related to Al-Qadir Trust University at the Bahria Town office. The raid was supported by teams from the Punjab police and the elite force.
“As Chairman of Bahria Town, I assure you, such bullying will not deter me from my stand I have already made public,” Riaz tweeted. “This arm twisting isn’t hurting me only, it’s crippling the real estate investment in Pakistan. You’re not demolishing my business; your actions are stalling the economic growth of the country. If this is the real agenda behind this witch-hunt, let the people of Pakistan see it for what it really is.”
Riaz affirmed his belief in the Pakistani legal system and his commitment to facing all cases through legal channels. He emphasized his desire to avoid involvement in any political “power game” in the country, reiterating his “long-standing stance of neutrality” and his resistance to pressure tactics aimed at forcing him to choose sides.
