The repair work on main pipelines in Pakistan’s largest city, Karachi, has been completed. Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) claims that the repair was completed ahead of schedule and water supply to the city has also been restored.
According to details, repair work was carried out on two 84-inch diameter main pipelines in Abdullah Shah Ghazi Goth. In a press release, the Water and Sewerage Corporation stated that the 96-hour repair work was completed in 60 hours, and regular water supply to the city has been restored.
According to a report, due to the repair work, Karachi experienced a severe water shortage, and for the past three days, the citizens of Karachi were receiving 40% less water. Karachi’s daily water consumption is 1,200 million gallons (MGD), but due to work on the main pipelines, only 400 out of 650 MGD was being supplied.
The report states that during the repairs, water supply through water tankers was also affected, as hydrants were receiving very limited water, increasing the public’s difficulties. Areas affected by the water shortage in Karachi included Defence, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Lyari, NIPA, Jamshed Town, Saddar, Jinnah Town, PIB, Korangi, and Landhi.
Earlier, the repair work had begun on Thursday. KWSC states that water supply to the city is being restored ahead of schedule. The CEO of Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation confirmed that the institution’s success is proof of the corporation’s improving performance.
