LAHORE: A 15-year-old housemaid was tortured by a house owner in Lahore over accusation of stealing a mobile phone.
According to sources, the house owner allegedly tortured her maid and kept into illegal captivity for two days. Sources further said the victim Shabana has been working as a housemaid at the residence for the last couple of years but she was tortured on the suspicion of stealing a cell phone.
Family members of the victim girl said that accused had poured boiling water over Shabana’s feet and also beaten her, resulting in grave injuries.
Later, the owner handed over the housemaid to Kot Lakhpat police on late Saturday night. The family also complained about the presence of the girl in Kot Lakhpat instead of being kept at a women police station.
When questioned by journalists, the house owner launched threats to the media persons outside the police station instead of providing details of the incident.
They demanded the arrest of the accused as well as a transparent investigation into the incident. The family also alleged that influential persons have forced them to settle the matter.
On June 2, an eight-year-old domestic worker was allegedly beaten to death by her employers in a private housing society of Rawalpindi after the girl freed a caged parrot.
According to reports, the minor girl Zohra Shah started working for the family a few months ago, taking care of the employer’s own child in the Bahria Town area of Rawalpindi.
Zohra Shah was physically abused and tortured after she freed some a caged parrot that angered her employers. The incident occurred on Monday after she was beaten and later left at a hospital where the staff called the police.
Police had taken the perpetrator into custody who reportedly confessed to beating the minor girl. A First Information Report (FIR) had been registered against the suspects.
There were also signs of torture and injuries on her ribs including torture marks on her thighs and arms.
The incident has raised alarm on social media as Twitter has been trending with hashtag #JusticeForZohraShah where people are showing their anger and demanding justice for the minor girl.
