Today is July 9, and it was on this day in 1967 that the Mother of the Nation, esteemed Fatima Jinnah, passed away. Thus, her death anniversary is observed today.
Fatima Jinnah was born into the Jinnah family on July 30, 1893, and was the youngest of seven children born to Jinnahbhai Poonja and Mithibai during the Bombay Presidency in the region of Kathiawar, Gujarat.
Fatima Jinnah is also known by the title “Mader-e-Millat,” meaning “Mother of the Nation.” She was an experienced and respected political leader, a dental surgeon, and one of the prominent founders of Pakistan.
She was the younger sister of Pakistan’s founder, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Fatima Jinnah’s unfinished book, “Mera Bhai” (My Brother), was a biography of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. This book was published by the Quaid-e-Azam Academy in 1987. Fatima Jinnah passed away on July 9, 1967, in Karachi and was buried in the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
When we were in school, programs were held on the occasion of Fatima Jinnah’s death anniversary. However, this practice has become less common now.
Even now, various events are organized under the management of public and private institutions to pay tribute to her services.
May Allah Almighty elevate the ranks of Mader-e-Millat Fatima Jinnah and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and grant us the strength to work towards achieving the objectives of Pakistan. Ameen, Ameen.
