KARACHI: Multiple roads across Karachi remained blocked on Friday leading to severe traffic gridlock on major roads of the city after protesters continued their sit-in against the Machh killings.
The protesters have staged their demonstrations at 26 locations in Karachi. The main demonstration has been organised at Numaish by the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) Pakistan against the murder of 10 coal miners in Machh.
Protests are being held in Abbas Town, Kamran Chowrangi, Gulistan-e-Johar, Power House Chowrangi, North Karachi, Malir 15 on National Highway, Steel Town Chowk, NH-5, Maskan Chowrangi, Safoora Goth, Rizvia and Nagan Chowrangi.
Several ares of North Karachi are blocked including Nazimabad No. 1 and 7 and 5 Star Chowrangi in North Karachi. Furthermore, Ziauddin Chowrangi, Peoples Chowrangi and Surjani Town.
The Main University Road has been blocked from Safari Park to AGPR Office, Federal Urdu University to NIPA, while protests are witnessed in Johar Mor, Ancholi, Ayesha Manzil IRC Bargah. There are proest in the key artery Shahrah-e-Faisal at Stargate, Colony Gate and Natha Khan.
The protestors have reached Korangi 2-1/2, Ibrahim Haideri, and Korangi Crossing. There was sporadic violence in Korangi as motorcycles were burnt.
Both tracks to and from II Chundrigar Road have been blocked with barricades and protesters have blocked by Merewether Tower. Main Sharah-e-Faisal from Drigh Road to Stargate has been blocked by protestors as well. Commuters have been advised to take the Shah Faisal route through service lanes and then head towards the Korangi Industrial Area.

The protests continued in multiple other parts of the country as well such as Islamabad, Lahore, Hyderabad and Faisalabad. It was earlier reported that protests were being wind up but the Hazaras have refused to move until they their demands are not fulfilled.
