The deadly Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) has once again spread in the cattle in Punjab, the media reported on Saturday.
Lumpy Skin Disease affected more than 62,000 animals in Punjab during 2022, in which 4656 animals died due to LSD, while farmers bore huge financial losses.
As per the reports, Punjab Livestock Department issued an alert as Lumpy Skin Disease, a viral infection in cattle, is again emerging in South Punjab, which enhanced the fear of loss worth billions of rupees to livestock forming.
Earlier, the deadly disease hit the livestock sector of Pakistan in 2022.
Sources said that the Lumpy Skin Disease had affected many animals living in South Punjab areas adjacent to Sindh province cities of Moro and Naushero Feroze.
The disease was first detected in November 2021 first time in Sindh, which later spread to Punjab province in 2022.
Punjab Livestock Department directed the Director Livestock, Bahawalpur, to establish inter-provincial check-posts on a priority basis.
Movements of all animals were being monitored in Punjab. The livestock department was advised to create awareness about the LSD in livestock forms in South Punjab, including Bahawalpur.
