Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik has been appointed as the new Director General (DG) of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the military’s media wing, ISPR, announced on Monday.
He will officially take charge on September 30, following the departure of the current DG ISI, Lieutenant General Nadeem Anjum, who will remain in the position until September 29.
Lt Gen Asim Malik, currently serving as the adjutant general at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, has had an illustrious military career. His experience includes commanding an infantry brigade in Waziristan and serving with the Balochistan infantry division. He has also held academic positions, including chief instructor at the National Defence University and instructor at Command and Staff College Quetta.
Gen Malik has been recognized for his distinguished service, having been awarded an honorary sword during his military course. His academic qualifications include a graduate degree from Fort Leavenworth in the United States and further studies at the Royal College of Defence Studies in London.
This transition marks an important leadership change at the helm of Pakistan’s premier intelligence agency.
