No wonder they call dog a faithful friend as a recent incident in Sahiwal, Punjab underscored the loyalty of dogs, as one helped unravel a murder mystery.
As the mystery goes, Umer Hayat, an agricultural laborer, was brutally murdered between the nights of February 13 and 14 in the village of 105/12-L, Tehsil Chichawatni. Days later, on February 18, Umer’s loyal dog unearthed his feet from a heap of burnt garbage, alerting nearby villagers and his employer, landlord Nadeem Abbas Shah.
The grim discovery was reported by a resident of the village, who called the police emergency line after spotting the remains. Villagers had noticed the dog tirelessly digging at the site.
The Okanwala Bangla police arrived promptly, recovering an unidentifiable, severely damaged body from the garbage heap.
Investigations revealed a shocking truth—Umer’s wife, Shamim, and her brother, Fida Hussain, were behind the heinous crime.

Shamim confessed that Umer had confronted her about an affair a week before his murder, sparking a violent altercation. Seeking revenge, she called Fida for help. Together, they killed Umer, disfigured his face with bricks and an iron rod, and burned his body to hide the evidence.
Both suspects were arrested on February 18 and face charges for their brutal actions.
