A claim circulating widely on social media alleges that unclaimed baggage at Islamabad International Airport can be purchased for just Rs. 560—provided users register through an online link. However, a fact-check has confirmed that this claim is entirely false.
The claim first appeared on June 20 through a Facebook page titled “Airport Announcements/ISB,” stating that dozens of suitcases go unclaimed each year at the airport, and under policy, luggage left unclaimed for six months can be sold to the public at Rs. 560 per bag. The post included a registration link and has since spread across various WhatsApp groups.
Fact-checking revealed that the claim is fabricated, and the relevant authority has formally denied it.
Earlier, the Pakistan Airports Authority posted a “Fake News Alert” on its official Facebook page, stating that any such information about the sale of unclaimed baggage at Islamabad International Airport is entirely false and misleading.
Airport authorities clarified that no such policy exists and the linked website is non-functional.
The public has been urged not to believe or engage with such deceptive claims.
