Miracles do happen indeed!
Georgian girls Elene Deisadze and Anna Panchulidze discovered they were sisters after decades of separation. Their remarkable story unfolded when they met on TikTok in 2022 and realized they were doppelgangers. Through their growing friendship, they uncovered that they had been illegally separated at birth. Subsequent DNA testing confirmed they were identical twins.
“I had a happy childhood, but now my entire past felt like a deception,” Anna told AFP. Their reunion highlighted a broader trafficking scandal in Georgia, where tens of thousands of children were unlawfully sold over more than 50 years. This scheme involved maternity hospitals, nurseries, and adoption agencies colluding to falsify birth records and profit from placing children with new families.
Last summer, at the age of 19, Elene and Anna were informed by their adoptive parents that they had been adopted. This revelation prompted them to pursue a genetic test, leading to the discovery of their biological connection.
Anna reflected on the emotional upheaval: “I struggled to process the information, to accept the new reality – the people who had raised me for 18 years are not my parents. But I feel no anger whatsoever, only immense gratitude to the people who raised me, and joy at finding my flesh and blood.”
In February of this year, another remarkable story unfolded as Amy Kvitia and Ano Sartania, identical twins born in western Georgia in 2002, rediscovered each other after 19 years apart. Tragically separated at birth and unknowingly sold to different families, their existence was concealed from their adoptive parents.
Their biological mother was falsely informed that both children had died at birth. Years later, in a twist of fate akin to Lindsay Lohan’s movie “The Parent Trap,” the twins unexpectedly stumbled upon each other.
