The long-awaited US election concluded on Wednesday with Donald Trump being elected as the new President, while his Republican Party also gained a simple majority in the Senate.
Several Pakistani-American candidates participated in the 2024 US elections across different states and political parties for different slots. So far, three candidates of Pakistani origin have been declared victorious, while some are still awaiting their results.
Winners:
- Suleman Lalani: Contesting on the Democratic Party ticket in Texas
- Salman Bhojani: Contesting on the Democratic Party ticket in Texas
- Ali Sheikhani: Republican Party, Texas
Awaiting Results:
- Ayesha Farooqi: Running on the Republican Party ticket in Michigan
- Amir Sultan: Contesting on the Republican Party ticket in New York
- Maryam Safi: Running on the Democratic Party ticket in Pennsylvania
- Aaron Bashir: The only Pakistani-American candidate for Congress, contesting in Pennsylvania
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has congratulated US President-elect Donald Trump on his historic victory for the second time.
In a post uploaded on his X handle on Wednesday, PM Shehbaz Sharif said he looks forward to working closely with the incoming US administration to further strengthen and broaden Pakistan-US partnership.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman and former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari extended his heartfelt congratulations to US President-elect Donald Trump and Vice-President-elect JD Vance on winning presidential elections.
In his facilitation message, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed the hope that during Donald Trump era, relations between Pakistan and United States of America will become stronger in all fields, specially in economic and security sectors.
He said that USA President-elect Donald Trump will use his office for promotion of peace and stability globally.
