Yawar Mehdi, a well-known broadcaster and literary programmer on Radio Pakistan, has passed away after a long illness.
According to the details, Mehdi, a pioneer for the development of Pakistan Arts Council, moved to his old house in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Block 15 in December 2019, more or less 3 years ago.
Even three years ago, the news of his illness and treatment was circulating. Yawar Mehdi’s younger brother, former Vice President of National Bank Hassan Mehdi also died in 2019 in the United States.
Academic and literary circles had expressed condolences to Yawar Mehdi on the demise of his brother, however, after the death of his brother, the well-known broadcaster Yawar Mehdi could not live long.
Yawar Mehdi, known as Radio Icon, passed away in Karachi due to a long illness. His funeral prayers will be offered at Imambargah Kazmeen, Shah Faisal after the noon prayers today.
Yawar Mehdi, who has made a name for himself in other fields including vocal training and training of poets and writers, gained popularity from the radio program Bazm-e-Talaba. His name is very prominent in political, scientific, and literary circles.
The program called Bazm-e-Talaba is important for training young poets and writers. Yawar Mehdi introduced a number of artists and writers nationally, including big names.
Khushbakht Shujaat of Muttahida Qaumi Movement, poets like PPP Senator Raza Rabbani and Parveen Shakir, and many other great personalities were trained under the shadow of Yawar Mehdi and were called his disciples.
