Petrol pumps across the country are observing a partial strike today as petroleum dealers remain divided over the call for a strike against the turnover tax imposed in the federal budget 2024-25.
A large number of petrol pumps in Karachi remained closed Friday morning; however, some were still operating as usual, particularly on University Road and Sharea Faisal.
Fuel stations in Lahore did not observe the strike as the Petroleum Dealers Association Punjab stated that despite the collapse of negotiations with the government, they would not shut down petrol pumps yet.
Petrol pump owners in Lodhran also continued selling fuel across the city, dissociating themselves from the strike.
In other parts of the country, some pumps are closed while some are open.
Meanwhile, the Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and the Petroleum Division announced that petroleum products would be available across the country, noting sufficient availability of petroleum products.
In a joint statement, they advised all Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to ensure adequate supplies of petroleum products at petrol pumps and to keep them open. They mentioned that a monitoring cell had been established in the DG (Oil) office to monitor the fuel supply position and coordinate among stakeholders during the strike called by Petroleum Dealers. OGRA will also mobilize its monitoring teams to oversee the situation and take remedial actions.
