KARACHI: Shai Hope and David Wiese were the stars of the show as Lahore Qalandars beat Quetta Gladiators by 63 runs in the 10th match of the eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi on Tuesday.
The Lahore Qalandars have set a 199-run target batting first thanks to brilliant batting display from Shai Hope, Tahir Baig, and Sikandar Raza.
Hope led the charge in the middle overs with a powerful 47 from 32 balls, laced with five fours and a maximum, after openers Fakhar Zaman and Tahir Baig were sent back to the hut inside the powerplay.
West Indies’ new ODI captain sailed Qalandars to 146/3 before Odean Smith (2-41) got rid of him with Iftikhar grabbing the catch at deep mid-wicket.
Alongside Hope, left-hander Hussain Talat made a brief cameo appearance and scored 26 points on 13 balls.
Nevertheless, Rashid Khan, who joined Qalandars earlier today at number 7, went not out with Zimbabwe’s Raza, who opened with two sixes and a four.
The Quetta bowlers gave up far too many runs, particularly the pace king Naseem Shah, who failed to pick up a wicket despite allowing 47 runs in his four overs.
Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Hasnain, and spinner Qais Ahmed each grabbed two wickets, while Odeam Smith and spinner Qais Ahmed each took one.
