A Lahore-based TikTok lawyer, Faisal Jutt, has been arrested for spreading false information about a alleged rape case of a college student.
Initially, Jutt claimed that a guard at a private college in Gulberg had raped a student, but later retracted his statement when authorities took action against him .
According to reports, the police couldn’t verify the incident and Punjab’s Chief Minister formed a high-level committee to investigate.
The police considered this a baseless rumor. A case was registered against Jutt and other individuals who spread false information. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) took action against those spreading rumors.
Jutt attempted to backtrack, stating there was no truth to the incident and advising people not to protest without evidence. However, his efforts to reverse course came too late, and he was taken into custody by the FIA.
Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz declared the alleged rape of a female student at a private college in Lahore a fabricated story, calling it a dangerous plot orchestrated by a political party to incite unrest after failing to achieve their goals through rallies and protests.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, CM Nawaz presented a student who had previously been portrayed on social media and in interviews as an eyewitness to the alleged rape.
