ISLAMABAD: The lady health workers (LHW) continued to protest near the federal capital’s D-Chowk for the second consecutive day, demanding financial and service relief from the government.
According to details, hundreds of lady health workers sitting under the open sky on roads, holding banners against the government, were demanding an increase in salaries and improved service structure.
While talking to M.M News, Farzana Anwar, Central President of LHWs Federation Pakistan and Azad Kashmir, said that despite the passage of 26 years, the authorities have not yet increased the salaries and pensions nor up-graded the scales. “Our service structure has not been approved,” she added.
“For the past two years, we are raising the issue with the provincial government, but instead of resolving the issue, committees are formed that suppress the issue,” she remarked.
She further said that the maximum take-home income of an LHW is around 25000 and the one has to bear the commuting charges from the salary. “LHWs are also part of the polio immunisation programme but the government is not paying attention to resolve our longstanding financial miseries,” she added.
Farzana Anwar also said that despite being the part of expanded healthcare infrastructure of the country the community lacks improved service structure. “No government forum was ready to listen to us and now hundreds of LHWs are on roads,” she concluded.
