The Punjab Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department has dismissed a female doctor for conducting a two-finger test (virginity test) on a minor rape victim.
This incident surfaced during a petition hearing at the Lahore High Court (LHC). The petition, filed by the rape suspect, requested the formation of a medical board for the re-examination of the victim.
In response, the department submitted a written report to the provincial apex court, disclosing that Dr. Aliza Gill, an ad hoc doctor, was terminated for issuing a medical certificate based on the virginity test of the minor victim.
In 2020, the LHC had issued directives prohibiting the performance of two-finger tests or virginity tests on rape victims and ordered health authorities to refrain from submitting medicolegal reports based on such tests.
The case involves a suspect accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in Kasur. However, the suspect’s lawyer, Advocate Mian Dawood, argued that Dr. Aliza had issued an illegal medical certificate against his client based on the two-finger test.
Justice Farooq Haider has instructed the Kasur police to present the victim and her mother in court, adjourning the hearing until Thursday (tomorrow).
