The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has officially abolished quota-based job appointments in the province, following a directive from the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
A notification issued by the KP Chief Secretary directed all government departments to ensure that future recruitments are conducted strictly on an open merit basis.
It also said that the Supreme Court has instructed federal and provincial governments to rescind all policies, rules, and procedures regarding job appointments for the legal heirs of civil servants who pass away during service, or are permanently disabled, incapacitated, or retired due to such conditions.
The notification instructs that all departments must fully comply with the Supreme Court’s orders by conducting appointments through open advertisements, competition, and merit-based selection.
However, it clarified that the Supreme Court’s order does not affect the provincial government’s policies, rules, or compensation packages designed to benefit the legal heirs of martyred law enforcement personnel or civil servants who lose their lives in terrorist incidents.
