In a bid to combat dengue fever, Lahore Zoo has introduced hundreds of fish into its lake to eliminate dengue mosquitoes and their larvae, as well as to control green algae.
Three new cases of dengue fever, one of which was confirmed in Lahore, brought the total number of cases in Punjab this year to 299 as of August 25.
According to the details, Zoo director Zahid Iqbal Sheikh and other officials released tilapia and other fish into the lake. The director said that these fish have the ability to eat green algae and mosquitoes, providing an eco-friendly solution to the problem.
He added that this initiative would not only help eliminate dengue mosquitoes from the lake but also reduce green algae, adding that such activities would improve water quality.
It should be noted that despite the concerted efforts of the District Health Authority (DHA) and other government departments, the anti-dengue campaign has not achieved the desired results, leading to a significant rise in dengue cases across the district.
