Karachi athlete Khurram Khan has made history by becoming the first Pakistani to participate in the prestigious Ironman World Championship held in Taipo, New Zealand.
The 41-year-old triathlete made waves by not only qualifying for the event on his own but also being the sole Pakistani to represent his country at the competition.
The championship, which attracted over 6,000 athletes from 119 countries, featured a grueling triathlon that included a 1.9-kilometer swim, a 90-kilometer bike ride, and a 21.1-kilometer run. Khurram Khan completed the entire circuit in an impressive 5 hours, 32 minutes, and 52 seconds. For Khan, it was a proud moment to hoist Pakistan’s flag at such a significant global sporting event, marking the first time the country was represented in the Ironman World Championship.
In a statement, Khurram Khan shared his excitement and pride, saying, “It is an honor to hoist Pakistan’s flag for the first time in the Ironman World Championship. It took months of hard work and dedication to qualify for this mega event, and I am proud to represent my country.” He also mentioned the recognition he received as the only Pakistani participant in the event, stating, “Being the only Pakistani athlete, I got a lot of recognition. I will continue to represent Pakistan in upcoming international competitions as well.”
