GUJRANWALA: Minister for Energy Khurram Dastgir has said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will appointment next chief of army staff after conferring with party head Nawaz Sharif.
Without mentioning PTI Chairman Imran Khan by name, the energy minister stated during a press conference in Gujranwala that the prime minister will make the final choice no matter how many times Khan talks with the army chief.
Meanwhile, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif while addressing a presser in Islamabad, said that neither a process nor a suggestion have been made to extend the tenure of the army chief.
It’s worth mentioning that the former Prime Minister Imran Khan earlier this week opposed suggestions that General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s term as head of the army staff be extended until the upcoming elections.
Asif explained that the appointment of the future army chief would be up to the choice of the prime minister in office in November, in accordance with the Constitution.
“Shehbaz Sharif will accomplish it this time,” he claimed. “Nawaz Sharif did the process four times.”
Asif continued, “Imran Khan played a very bad role in this aspect because this subject had never gained public traction.
The defense minister stated that since this is a constitutional requirement, it must be completed promptly. “The commander of the armed forces is devoted to the state and the Constitution. There should be no doubt, “said he.
