KARACHI: The employees of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) staged a protest against the non-payment of salaries in front of the Civic Centre and demanded the immediate release of their pending salaries.
Several employees chanted slogans against the administrations saying they would continue their protests daily basis until they get salaries.
The employees said they served in the KDA for many years in different capacities, but were not paid since 2019. They said due to the financial crisis the retired workers were unable to have treatment for ailments and to marry their children off. The government officials, they said was not paying attention to their problems.
“Apparently, we were betrayed by Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah. We were told that you have the right and would be made permanent as soon as possible,” they said. They warned to launch a protest campaign if their salaries were not paid within a week.
They alleged that the Finance Department of the KDA is not implementing the orders of the Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah and chief officers. They reminded that the chief officer in a recent meeting had assured them that their salaries would be released immediately.
The employees demanded immediate payment of their salaries, adding that local government employees could not live without salaries, so if the issue was not resolved immediately, they will compel to launch a protest campaign.
