The Karakoram Highway has been closed due to heavy rain and landslides in Gilgit-Baltistan while tourists have been directed not to travel beyond Chilas.
According to details, heavy rains and landslides occurred in Gilgit-Baltistan during the current monsoon season due to which a special section of Karakoram Highway was closed for all kinds of traffic.
Gilgit-Baltistan Home Department said that tourists should never travel beyond Chilas. It may take 3 to 4 days for the Karakoram Highway to open, which was closed due to heavy rains and landslides. Earlier, Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed arrived in Gilgit-Baltistan for a two-day official visit where he was received by officials.
When Home Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed arrived at Gilgit Airport three months ago, he was received by Director General Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts Zia-ur-Rehman and senior officials of the district administration.
Earlier, Federal Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Affairs Ali Amin Khan Gandapur said that steps were being taken to promote tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan in line with Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision.
In his statement, Ali Amin Gandapur said in February this year that tourism would further enhance Pakistan’s image at the international level and the development of tourism would strengthen Pakistan’s economy.
