Karachi is one of the largest cities not only in Pakistan but also in the world. It has a larger population than any other small country in the world.
Karachi has the distinction of providing employment to the working class living across the city of Pakistan.
Providing employment
Karachi has always proved its greatness by allowing citizens from all walks of life to embrace it. The city has always been at the forefront of supporting the country’s economy and despite being an important part of the country’s development, Karachi has been suffering from deprivation for decades.
Deprivation of the people
The youth of Karachi are deprived of jobs despite being endowed with knowledge and wisdom and even after paying hefty taxes to the citizens, they are facing unavailability of basic amenities. Children are deprived of such facilities as education, recreation, public roads, medical treatment.
Despite the PPP is in power in Sindh for a long time, Karachi has become a center of deprivation. Sadly, the PPP leadership has never made sincere efforts to alleviate the plight of the citizens but is increasing the frustrations and difficulties of the citizens.
Local Government Act
It seems that Pakistan Peoples Party is punishing the citizens of Karachi for not voting. Despite the approval of billions of rupees by the government in the name of the development of Karachi, the people of the city are anxious to solve their legitimate problems.
Through the new Local Government Act, the Sindh government once again feels that it may be trying to gain complete control over Karachi as the decisions taken in the past suggest that the Sindh government may have nothing to do with Karachi.
The fact is that the citizens of Karachi are already suffering from many problems and frustrations and the attempt to control the institutions of Karachi through a controversial bill has become a source of concern for the citizens.
Political tension
All major and minor political parties, including the ruling party in the federation and the opposition party in Sindh, Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Pak Sarzain Party, Muslim League, and Jamaat-e-Islami, are protesting against the Local Government Act but Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi, has been holding sit-ins outside the Sindh Assembly for the last three weeks.
The Jamaat-e-Islami has clearly demanded that this law be withdrawn and the deprivations of Karachi be removed and it seems that all the political parties in Karachi have to some extent agreed with the demands of the Jamaat-e-Islami. All quarters seem to stand in support of the party.
All parties are united against the Sindh Local Government Act and now Pak Sarzameen Party seems to be following the protest strategy. However, the foolish attitude of PPP in this situation is beyond comprehension and it seems that perhaps the PPP is not ready to transfer power to the people and the irresponsible statements of the provincial minister Saeed Ghani are further complicating the situation which is increasing the concern of the citizens.
PPP’s stubbornness
At this time there is a need to find a solution to the problem keeping in view the interests of the people of Karachi because at this time a wave of protests is about to rise in Sindh and if after Jamaat-e-Islami PSP, MQM, and other parties also If they go out for the protest, the situation will get worse which will cause irreparable damage to the reputation of PPP.
Regardless of all these issues, Karachi and its citizens need time to get their due. The deprivations should be stopped and the citizens should be given their due rights because if the PPP still does not take the nails of conscience then along with Karachi the country will also suffer.
