Karachi: The number of dog bite cases in Karachi has increased significantly compared to the previous year, with thousands of incidents reported in the first two months of 2024.
According to Dr. Romana Farhat, in charge of the Rabies Clinic at Civil Hospital, 5,795 dog bite cases have been recorded at the facility in January and February alone.
Dr. Romana further stated that 3,269 cases were reported during the same period last year, indicating a sharp increase. Currently, over 100 dog bite cases are being reported daily at Civil Hospital.
Providing further insight, Dr. Irfan Siddiqui revealed that over 5,000 cases have been reported at Jinnah Hospital this year, compared to 3,000 cases last year.
Medical experts advise that in case of a dog bite, the affected area should be washed thoroughly with detergent soap for at least 15 minutes, followed by a complete course of anti-rabies vaccination and preventive injections to avoid complications.
